Toastmasters is an International Organization that is dedicated to "Making Effective Communication a Worldwide reality." In India, the movement was started in 1991, thought the YMCA in India had informal Toastmasters Clubs, where people could learn about Public Speaking.
Today, with about 130 clubs across India and Sri Lanka, Toastmasters is poised to make a huge impact on the communication skills of individuals in the Sub-continent. Toastmaster Clubs can be found in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Calcutta, Mangalore, Pune, Hyderabad, and Calicut. In Bangalore, there are many Community Clubs where people can join and become members. In addition, Toastmasters is also found in the Corporate World, and in Educational Institutions. Infosys, Sun Microsystems, Centre for Management Studies are some of the institutions based out of the garden city, where clubs are doing very well.
Ian Faria is one of the members of a club called LA 1924. This is the third oldest club of TM in the country, and boasts of a number of achievements.
